Certification as a Technical Nutrient (TN) or Biological Nutrient (BN) requires a “nutrient (re)utilization” score of at least 50 out of 100. The score is calculated from the product’s recyclability or compostability, and its recycled or rapidly renewable content, as shown at right. With this calculation, a product made of components that are 67% recyclable with zero recycled content would have a Nutrient (Re)utilization Score of [(67)*3 + (0)*1]/4 = 50, an acceptable score for TN/BN or Silver certification.
