SITES Exits Legal Limbo by Joining GBCI
The landscaping equivalent of LEED has joined the ranks of programs falling under GBCI’s green certification portfolio.

Explaining the significance of the acquisition of the Sustainable Sites Initiative (SITES) by Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI), GBCI’s CEO Rick Fedrizzi said, “Landscaping knits together the fabric of our communities.” GBCI has itself been sewing a patchwork quilt of certification systems, with recent acquisitions or alliances with Performance Excellence in Energy Renewal (PEER), the WELL Building Standard (WELL), and the Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB).
Now GBCI has pulled SITES out of an extended legal morass and added a new version, SITES v2. The program has attracted more than 100 projects, 46 of which have already received certification.
