USGBC Leadership Awards

In presenting their second annual Leadership Awards during Greenbuild, the U.S. Green Building Council recognized five companies and individuals “who signify the vision, leadership, and commitment to the evolution of green building design and construction”:

• Toyota Motor Sales, USA, Inc. received the Green Building Business Award for its commitment to a Global Earth Charter that mandates a reduction of environmental impact not only through the vehicles it produces but also through every aspect of its business.

• Austin Energy, a municipally owned public utility, was awarded the Green Public Service Award in recognition of its Green Building Program, which promotes sustainability through consumer marketing and education and technical training of building professionals.

• Penny Bonda, FASID, of EnvironDesignWorks, received the USGBC Leadership Award.

A former USGBC board member, Bonda chairs LEED for Commercial Interiors and also serves as a LEED training program faculty member.

• Dr. Raymond Cole, professor at the University of British Columbia School of Architecture’s Environmental Research Group, received the Green Public Service Award for a Non-Government Organization. Cole has been a leader in the green building world for many years, most recently adapting the LEED standards to a Canadian framework. Dr. Cole also sits on  EBN’s advisory board.

• Vivian Loftness, FAIA, professor and head of the School of Architecture at Pittsburgh’s Carnegie Mellon University, received the Local/Regional Leadership Award. Loftness led the development of the BIDS™ Life-Cycle Building Decision Support Tool and is recognized internationally for her work as a green building consultant.
