American Physical Society Weighs in on EMF
In a statement released this April, The American Physical Society argued that the electromagnetic fields (EMF) emanating from power lines and appliances do not show a consistent, significant link with cancer. APS, the world’s largest organization of physicists with over 43,000 members, argues that the fears generated by unsubstantiated claims of health effects from EMF are leading to expensive and unwarranted mitigation efforts. “The diversion of these resources to eliminate a threat which has no persuasive scientific basis is disturbing to us,” the one-page statement said. “More serious environmental problems are neglected for lack of funding and public attention, and the burden of cost placed on the American public is incommensurate with the risk, if any.”
