The Natural Step Takes a First Step in the U.S.
The Natural Step held the first of many planned one-day workshops this February in Denver, Colorado and in Marion, Massachusetts to acquaint business leaders with this innovative movement that is quickly gaining steam in Europe. The group’s U.S. chapter is led by author Paul Hawken and Don Aitken, of the Union of Concerned Scientists.
Begun in Sweden in 1989 by cancer researcher Karl-Henrik Robert, The Natural Step grew out of Robert’s concern that we are getting too lost in details and need to focus on the big picture. In collaboration with leading scientists in Sweden, Robert developed a consensus report that identifies four principles or “system conditions” that govern life on the planet.
