Tuning Today’s Building Designs to Tomorrow’s Climate
A new modeling tool, WeatherShift, helps designers see how designs today can account for comfort, resilience, and energy needs decades down the line.

“We need to get better at preparing for the future,” says Cole Roberts, P.E., associate principal at Arup.
“Future-oriented design” that accounts for a changed climate isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, he concedes. For example, “It’s a harder thing for speculative developers to get behind; they need to be convinced that there is value at the point of transaction.” But it’s a no-brainer for institutions, large corporations, and urban planners.
