Class of 2030: Groups Agitate for Sustainability in Architecture Schools

Forty-three architecture professionals gathered at a retreat in the mountains of Utah for the National Architectural Accrediting Board’s (NAAB) 2014 accreditation review conference (ARC). The goal: to debate and decide upon the most important guidelines for schools of architecture accredited by NAAB.

The conditions for accreditation were published after a final review process at the end of summer. There was less controversy at this stage than there had been after the original draft was posted, but some groups remained unappeased. Many of the comments on the original draft were from the Society of Building Science Educators (SBSE) and the Environmental Design Research Association (EDRA), both of which had suggestions and objections to the NAAB conditions for sustainable design.
