Massachusetts Code Also to Require Commissioning
Thank you for your article on building commissioning in
EBN
Vol. 9, No. 2 [February 2000]. This important aspect of the building process is indeed gaining focus throughout the design and construction communities as buildings and their supporting systems become ever more complex and interrelated. As you point out, building codes (like the City of Seattleās) can be among the driving forces. Your readers might be interested to know that the Commonwealth of Massachusetts has also adopted basic commissioning language for HVAC, lighting, and power distribution systems into its new commercial energy code, due to take effect in 2001. The state is offering free seminars on the new code requirements, hoping to smooth the transition for architects, engineers, designers, contractors and others in the industry. Information about the Massachusetts code and training is available at www.state.ma.us/bbrs/energy.htm.
