PCA on Porous Paving
Your September 2004 feature article on porous pavement [see
EBN
Vol. 13, No. 9] could not have been more timely. We at the Portland Cement Association (PCA) have noted a tremendous demand for more information on this innovative construction technique. It is just one of the many applications in which concrete provides a sustainable solution, and it is an excellent choice for low-duty pavements. However, as noted, a limited number of contractors have the necessary know-how for these systems. PCA and the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association have just published a technical manual—essentially a how-to guide, from engineering guidance to maintenance—on porous (or pervious) concrete. Our intention is to provide the technical information so more contractors can put this sustainable construction technique into practice.

Editors’ note:
The above-mentioned 25-page manual provides an excellent introduction to porous concrete applications. It is available for purchase at www.cement.org/bookstore.
