Resilience Is Scaling Up

Editor’s note: The first national conference on resilience in the built environment takes place November 7 and 8 in Cleveland. Join BuildingGreen, the International Living Future Institute, and the Resilient Design Institute there for Building Resilience 2019. Building Resilience 2019 will focus exclusively on how to create more resilient buildings and communities. October 29, 2012. Hurricane Sandy made landfall in the U.S., causing at least 53 deaths and wreaking havoc for days in New York City with blackouts, flooding, and fires. Suddenly, with climate change literally hitting home for millions of its citizens, the City started paying attention; it immediately began adopting new zoning and building codes to address resilience.
