EMF report from National Academy of Sciences
Newsbriefs
A scientific panel convened by the
National Research Council, an arm of the National Academy of Sciences, reports that after surveying hundreds of studies, it found no clear and convincing evidence that exposure in the home to electric and magnetic fields (EMFs) causes any human disease. The panel determined that research indicating that there is a connection “has been inconsistent and contradictory.” While acknowledging a slight correlation between proximity to power lines and childhood lukemia, the scientists felt that other, non-EMF factors at those locations may be responsible. Following on the heels of similar findings by the American Physical Society (see
EBN
Vol. 4, No. 4), this report reinforces the opinion of the mainstream scientific community that EMFs are not a serious health concern.
