BIO
I have been a go-to green building expert ever since pioneering one of the first sustainability programs in the United States. I have a reputation as an outstanding educator, and dynamic speaker, and have been a member of USGBC Faculty since 2002. My background in architecture, engineering, and Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences gives me a unique understanding of complex systems and human health impacts of green design.
I was the founding Chair of the USGBC-Chicago (now Illinois) Chapter and received the chapter’s first Chapter Leader Award. I continue to be a committed volunteer as the Chair of USGBC’s Indoor Environmental Quality Technical Advisory Group, and regularly participate on USGBC and GBCI ad hoc committees.
In recognition of my contributions to green building, I was named to the inaugural class of USGBC LEED Fellows in 2011 and received the first Chapter Leader Award from USGBC Illinois Chapter.
In 2013 I launched my own practice, The Green Facilitator. Services include meeting and workshop facilitation; USGBC LEED curriculum delivery and green building training; and sustainability and certification mangement and coaching.
Prior to starting my own firm, I was the national Director of Sustainable Design Services at HDR, and the Director of Sustainability at OWP/P (now Cannon Design). Other positions include Sustainability Strategist at Perkins+Will and director of green building initiatives and LEED consulting for the non-profit Delta Institute.
I have managed sustainability implementation on dozens of projects, ranging in scope from small furniture showrooms to 1 million s.f. hospitals. In addition to LEED accreditation I am an Envison® green infrastructure rating system
Sustainability Professional, a Living Building Challenge Ambassador, and a member of the Climate Reality Leadership Corps.
