Six Green-Solutions Companies Form a Sustainability Consortium

Philips Lighting, Forbo Flooring, The Invironmentalists, Johnson Controls, Johnson Diversey, and Milliken Carpets have teamed up to create the Alliance for Sustainable Built Environments. This loosely woven network of like-minded companies aims to promote awareness of sustainability while enhancing business opportunities for its members. “Our plan of attack is to try to get more involvement at the corporate level,” says Forbo’s Tim Cole, adding “sustainability needs to start in the board room, not in the marketing department.” The Alliance was conceived over the past two years and rolled out to the public in late March 2004 at the National Facility Management and Technologies Conference and Exposition in Baltimore, Maryland.

Beginning this spring, the Alliance will host a series of free seminars to share its expertise and promote its members’ services to interested companies. Each Alliance member will contribute one 45-minute training module to each seminar, according to Cole. Six seminars are planned for 2004, and more in future years.
