2002 National Green Building Awards

At the fourth annual National Green Building Conference in Seattle, the NAHB Research Center announced the following winners of the

2002 National Green Building Awards:

Wesley Miller of Tucson, Arizona, president of John Wesley Miller Companies, the developer of Armory Park del Sol.

•

Emerald Homes of The Woodlands, Texas won two awards: one for Green Project of the Year, in the Production or Affordable Home category, and the other for Green Marketing.

•Green Project of the Year, Custom or Luxury Home, went to

Casa Verde Custom Homes of Albuquerque, New Mexico.

•National Green Building Program of the Year is

Austin Energy’s Green Building Program, for the “comprehensiveness and long-term success of its program.”

•The Outstanding Green Product Award, chosen by ballot during the conference, went to the

GFX Drainwater Heat-Recovery System (see

Vol. 6, No. 8) manufactured by Doucette Industries and submitted by supplier T. R. Strong Building Systems Co. This award is given to the product that has the biggest effect on advancing the cause of resource-efficient home construction. In an unrelated development, the largest residential installation of GFX systems is now under way at Troutdale Terrace in Troutdale, Oregon, where 202 of the units are being installed in this affordable housing complex by Winkler Development Co. and designer Sullivan Architecture, LLC. The general contractor on the project is R+H Construction Co., and the plumbing contractor is Tapani Plumbing, Inc.
