BIO
Ms. Sullivan founded Studio G Architects in 1991, a few years after receiving a Master of Architecture from MIT, to integrate high quality architectural design, social equity, and an ecological approach. This commitment arises from a decade of advocacy work with the American Indian Movement, groups working to end violence against women, as the Executive Director of Greenpeace New England, and with Architects and Planners in Support of Nicaragua.
From its inception, Studio G’s focus has reflected Ms. Sullivan’s passion for public interest design that enhances community and creates an enduring sense of place. Design for housing, schools, early education, community centers and civic buildings is central to the firm’s mission to transform lives through architecture.
Ms. Sullivan and her team are committed to designing sustainable communities: green, mixed use, transit-oriented places that support diverse populations. She infuses environmental sensitivity into all projects, new construction and renovation, and is committed to designing sustainable and resilient communities. Studio G Architects signed onto the AIA 2030 Commitment, and advocates carbon neutral/zero net energy as the target against which to measure projects’ performance.
Committed to collaboration, Ms. Sullivan creates participatory planning and design processes which weave together multiple perspectives. She has led several community planning initiatives at various scales, utilizing design workshops and other means of engagement. She brings a consciousness of social, economic and environmental sustainability to every planning and architecture project, from building to neighborhood to urban scale.
Ms. Sullivan is a member of the American Institute of Architects College of Fellows, recipient of the Women in Design Award from Boston Society of Architects, and participated in Boston Climate Bridge-Copenhagen, touring zero net energy projects in Denmark in 2016. She has presented at numerous conferences.
